Humanettes

Humanettes are strange folk. Basically, they're puppet bodies with human/performer heads. Derived from the bun raku style of puppetry, the performer manipulates the legs and arms with rods while using their own head to do the talking. The performer is hidden by a piece of black fabric, making the humanette appear like it's a living, breathing character. The Puppet Cluster has performed with humanettes in many different styles and locations. Table top is a popular form, as are walk-arounds. Some performances include: The Little Green Man (Bantu Circus, Puppet Supper, Washington Square NYC, Earth Dance, and elsewhere), as well as stock characters (PuppetLOVE!, Circle of Life, CELLabration, Puppet Supper, Earth Day 2002, and at the Odeon's Puppet Night). Humanettes are mostly designed by David Morley, and have been performed by Stephen Bass, Deborah Ben-Eliezer, Tamara Li, David Morley, Rob Penn, and Jonathan Youtt

Monkey Thump Puppet Collective

Combining the love for percussion, puppetry, mask making, film making, education, and collaboration, Monkey Thump offers all kinds of puppetry for all ages. Since 1994, their brand of Sudden Theater is zany, harrowing, and hilarious...all at the same time! Whether they're teaching percussion and puppetry in an after school program, or performing for In the Street or Israel Fest, Monkey Thump hopes to activate the mind as well as the soul (while tickling the funny bone). Shows range from environmental themes, to rated x puppet soft-porn (Monkey Du Sade had PuppetLOVE! audiences rolling in the aisles), and anything in between. Contact ring-master Jonathan Youtt if you're interested in Monkey Thump's performance or education programs.
