2/4/2006: DJ HappyFt @ Mixtape Vol. 2

New Year’s night, Tim Barsky wandered up to the Big Tadoo puppet stage at the Sea of Dreams. We ended up hanging out, having a great discussion about history, and he asked me to perform at the Everyday Theatre (EDT) afterparty in early February.

He showed up at the puppet stage a few hours later, and asked if he could beatbox. I said sure, and helped him set up the PA and mic. It was late (Tim’s stint on mic could have been the last performance in the whole Sea of Dreams show) and the PA was loud. He lasted 5 minutes before security tried to shut us down twice. I cut Tim short and he finished at the same time a security guard approached him to tell him to quit.

I have a special place in my heart for beatboxing (Yuri Lane, and Mixtape from Mars with Kid Beyond have been in two of my shows), especially when the performer is a radical storyteller like Tim. Please join us this Sat. to “pass the hat” for Everyday Theatre:

WHAT IS “PASSING THE HAT” ALL ABOUT? Read on…

“Passing the Hat” is a weekend of theatre, music, dance and spoken word, performed by the members of the Everyday Theatre ensemble. Our aim is to showcase our work for potential investors and supporters, garnering their backing for our 2006 season, and beyond.

On Friday, February 3rd, we’ll be performing “The Bright River”, our critically acclaimed show that ran for 24 weeks in the Bay Area over 2004 and 2005.

We’ll follow this on Saturday, February 4th with the second installment of our twice-monthly showcase “MIXTAPE”, a selection of our ensemble members’ best acts, sewn together in a serial form, as one would create a mix tape of the best tracks from one’s favorite records.

It’s going to be a great weekend of theatre, and we hope you’ll join us. AND THEN…

In support of EDT and in celebration of Epic Arts Studios 3rd Anniversary, join of for a rollicking good party. With food, special drink concoctions, and music jumpin’ until the wee hours. We’re kickin’ off around 10pm with: Dr. Abacus (cartoon jazz), DJ Laird (house), DJ Aspect (hip hop), DJ Happyft (balkan) and Vowel Movement Beatboxers
